In 1722, Giovanni Antonio Ciantar, an 18th century Maltese poet, published three epigram collections in Latin in one volume titled Epigrammaton Libri Tres. In some of these epigrams, Ciantar praises some poets from the Accademia degli Arcadi, "Academy of Arcadia" (an Italian literary academy founded in Rome in 1690).He praises three of its founders Giovan Mario Crescimbeni, Giambattista Felice Zappi, e Vincenzo Leonio, and others less known as Orazio Vannuzzi, Gaetano Giardina e Ignazio Francesco Vizzini. It is from these epigram studies, (that Gerald Bugeja translates in Italian for the first time which also sheds light on Ciantar's poetics) that it must be included in the Arcadian field, and thus be fully appreciateden_GB
