The rules of intestate succession very often come into play when the deceased person has not disposed of his estate by a will, in such a way that his succession is deprived of any manifestation of his own desire. In this case the law takes his place in order to regulate the succession instead of him. Intestate succession opens in favour of the descendants, the relatives and the spouse of the deceased, as will be seen in the later chapters, and in the absence of any of the above persons, the estate shall devolve upon the Government.en_GB
