Abstract: | Banking has come a long way from the days of the first banks which were little more than goldsmiths accepting valuables for safe keeping. Nowadays banks are an essential service industry looked upon increasingly not merely as custodians of deposits but also as safe providers of all services connected with funds transfers of all kinds. This, coupled with the ever growing awareness that some kind of banking facilities should be available as much as possible on a twenty four hour basis, have made banks look towards other means to be able to satisfy the ever increasing and more sophisticated needs of today's society. One of the means which banks, all over the world, have adopted to make their services available on a continuous basis and to an ever increasing cross section of today's society was through the use of modern technology. |
