Abstract: Throughout this thesis I shall be adopting a thematic methodology to analyse various aspects of the bareboat charterer. I have consulted both local and foreign printed sources pertinent to a fuller understanding of the subject matter being investigated. The scope of this work extends to examining the position of the bareboat charterer and the extent to which Maltese law provides for such arrangement. The bareboat charterer will be studied from specific viewpoints that are fundamental to this type of contract, bringing out the existing legal deficiencies in the process. I will finally be focusing on the availability of admiralty proceedings in a demise charterparty scenario, which is subject of much topical debate before our Courts, and shall thereby proceed to give my views on necessary measures to update the existing position.
