Abstract: This chapter focuses on the sustainable development/economic resilience nexus. The main argument is that economic resilience building is a necessary but not sufficient condition for sustainable development, in that sustainable development has a much wider meaning than economic resilience building. However, the two would move in the same direction if an integrated and holistic approach is adopted in the pursuit of development. When dealing with the Maltese economy, the chapter takes a long-term view of development and poses the question as to whether Malta is moving in the right direction in its attempts to build its economic resilience and, at the same time, promote sustainable development.
