Abstract: ‘Industrial disputes’ are an interesting but difficult part our law – not least so because of the rarity of the occasions when such disputes reach H.M. Judicial Bench. The subject is quite vast, but in this study it is proposed to discuss its essential elements and hence the scheme followed is as follows: Chapter 1 discusses the definition, Chapter II deals with the statutory measures available for the settlement of trade disputes, and Chapter III examines the situation when recourse is, as is usually said, had to hostile action. This study therefore is not a practical application of the law to particular problems, except in so far as these problems crop up during the discussion of various points of law. It is because of this that such aspects of the subject as relations between the Malta Arbitration Tribunal and the ordinary Courts, the right to strike and its consequences, negotiating machinery, boycotts and look-outs, have been omitted from this study.
