When one refers to international financial institutions, one usually means the financial institutions which have been created by various states in order that the implementation of policies decided at some higher level either of that state or perhaps of some other organisation would be implemented with greater ease. These institutions provide the channel through which the sustaining force, that is the funds for the implementation of the said policies, would be channelled into previously approved projects. If one were to try and classify international institutions then one would tend to classify international financial institutions as secondary in the sense that their raison d'etre seems to be to serve the professed aims either of the states which would have created them in the first place or those of the international organisation with which they are affiliated.en_GB
