| Abstract: | 'We live in an increasingly violent world.' This 'statement of fact' sums up one of the most popular ideas of our time, an idea that is affirmed and confirmed almost daily in the media 's coverage of acts of brutality, aggression and violence. The message of the media is clear - violence is bad, abnormal, irrational and mindless, and its prevalence to-day is symptomatic of the ills of our society; senseless actions in a sick society; something must be done. |
