Abstract: The scope of this article is to make known the great efforts of Malta and its people during the most difficult time of World War 1, when the island became the ad hoc medical centre of the Mediterranean Sea for Eastern Europe's battlegrounds. As a result Malta became known as the "Nurse of the Mediterranean". A natural consequence of this role was the additional postal service rendered by Malta, through the Army Post Office, the staff of which was recruited from the the local G.P.O. as well as the G.P.O. itself, to the ANZACs, British soldiers and soldiers of many other Expeditionary forces from several countries that temporarily called Malta home.
