dc.description.abstractSicily issued the first postage stamp on the 1st January 1859 during the reign of King Ferdinand II known as King "Bomba" featuring his portrait. The engraver was the famous Tommaso Aloysio Juvara (1809-1887). And the values were: Gr 1/2; Gr 1; Gr 2; Gr 5; Gr 10; Gr 20. The hand stamp used to cancel the stamps was the ornate frame, intended to go round the face of the King, and not spoil his face. [excerpt]en_GB
