Abstract: The general effects of heavy metal salts on the survival and behaviour of marine animals are reviewed, and the effects of mercury and cadmium salts on Artamia salina L. (Crustacea, Branchiopoda) and Monodonta artlculata Lam. (Gastropoda, Trochidae) are investigated. In all experiments, the salts utilized are sulphate, acetate, and chloride of both mercury (Hg++) and cadmium (Cd++).
