Abstract: In the first part, historical perspectives of geographical methodology are discussed. Then, characteristic features of the "new geography" are viewed, in theory and in practical application in the schools. Lastly, the results of a questionnaire distributed to Form I geography teachers teaching the Mediterranean in government secondary schools and private schools are portrayed and analysed. In the second part, four thematic studies of aspects from the Mediterranean each subdivided in units related to the main theme are presented~ The various themes considered are volcanic activity, oil exploration and its importance, agriculture and tourism. In these thematic studies, the various methods emphasized in the "new geography" are employed.
