Abstract: The aim of this study was to attempt to map out the experiences and attitudes of women teachers in their daily work in schools, as well as in the operation of the education service as a whole. Thus, this study is concerned with gender relations in the work place of teachers and with the organisation of work. This study explores the distribution of women teachers; their career and promotions; career breaks and attitudes regarding job satisfaction and dissatisfaction. A detailed account of the data gathered from our survey is given in the chapters. The significance of the marital status of these women in these areas of research was also analysed. The stratified sample consisted of 600 women teachers - 400 from State schools and 200 from Private schools in different sectors and classes. The questionnaire was administered during the first semester of the scholastic year 1996 - 1997.
