| Abstract: | This dissertation consists of an analysis of spoken Maltese. The texts represent a variety of registers. Excerpts were recorded, transcribed and tagged. The quantitative processing was carried out by means of a computer programme called 'Andrew Mallia'. The thesis describes the process of word by word tagging. This led to the establishment of the distribution and sequence of word categories, such as verbs, adverbs, nouns and adjectives. Every word was tagged according to its morphological status. This is a completely new exercise in the analysis of Maltese leading to results which have never been established before. |
