The Gozitan Junior Lyceum and secondary student : a profile

Abstract

The aim of this study is to draw up a profile of the typical Gozitan male and female Junior Lyceum and Area Secondary School students and the personal characteristics of both sexes with two comparative studies (Male and Female) of each sex as regards his/her school. Thus we drew up profiles of Male junior Lyceum student and his male counterpart in the Area Secodary School in Victoria, Gozo and we did the same comparative profiles of two female students from the Girls' Junior Lyceum and the Girls' Secondary School. The main areas investigated are: the Junior Lyceum and Secondary School students family background, feelings about school, favourite subjects, hours of study, private lessons or tuition, aspirations for the future, leisure and hobbies and personal belongings. The methodology used was the questionnaire technique and some of the most important differences between the different schools were tested for significance. The study is preceded by the literature review which sought similarities and differencies in previous Maltese reports as well as reports from other countries.
