Abstract: Anton Nani(1842-1929) was a Maltese composer of the Romantic period. He composed music that exhibited the strong influence that Italian music exerted on all contemporary composers in Malta. Anton Nani composed music both for the church (sacred) and for the theatre (opera). The purpose of this dissertation is to present a general study of the three operas composed by Anton Nani: Zorilla(1870), I Cavalieri di Malta(1877), Agnese Visconti (1876). Each opera is presented with its plot and a brief historical note that discusses the various events surrounding the performance. In addition to this, there is also a modern edition and analysis of several important excerpts from I Cavalieri di Malta.
