The socio-economic background of Junior Lyceum students

Abstract

This study is meant to shed light on the socio-economic background of Junior Lyceum students. In defining this field, I looked mainly at the occupation of the father, assessed on the categories of occupational status provided by the 1985 Malta Government Census. Through an analysis of the occupational aspirations of these students, I attempt to check whether they follow their father's occupational status or not. Although my study is not meant to analyse who and what is contributing to the occupational aspirations of the students, I do question the role Junior Lyceums play in educating these students.
