Abstract: Interviews with children in Year 6 at Valletta Primary 'B'; visits to families residing in the area; contacts with various people who in some way have/had experience of the lifestyle of the working class in Valletta, all helped to provide knowledge about the different aspects in the lives of the children in Valletta. An analysis of the textbooks used in Year 6 was carried out thus verifying that there exists a clash between the culture of the books and that of the children. A questionnaire distributed to the teachers of the Year 6 students helped to focus on the way teachers deal with working class children and their textbooks.
