Abstract: | The relationship between peer co-worker relations and job satisfaction was analysed in this dissertation. The implications of this relationship are considered to be major contributing factors to the overall success of the organisation. The theories outlined in the literature review support this as it is emphasised that a firm cannot function based on a solely technical system. The elements for peer co-worker relations include workplace friendship prevalence on an individualistic level, and workgroup cohesion on a group level. The literature also outlined the importance of job satisfaction and the various factors which may contribute to it. An analysis on the intrinsic factors was highlighted in this study. A quantitative approach from an employee perspective was utilised to highlight the importance of having positive peer relations in the workplace. The data consisted of 253 online survey responses, in which the participants were gathered by snowball sampling. The results highlighted that both independent variables have a significant impact on job satisfaction. Also, team cohesion reported a greater influence on job satisfaction, and there was a significant difference when comparing those who work in teams to those who do not. This puts a team environment at the forefront of positive internal communication. Optimising peer relations and hand-in-hand with external motivators would yield greater benefits for the firm such as increased performance, productivity, success, and retention. Ultimately, these elements of internal communication play a key role in the future of the organisation. |
