Abstract: This study is about the problems pupils face on transition from the primary to the secondary school. The main part of the research was carried out in four Maltese secondary schools two Junior Lyceums and two Area Secondary schools. The main sample was made up of 699 Form I pupils, 363 boys and 336 girls. 393 pupils came from the Junior Lyceums, while 306 pupils were from the Area Secondary schools. The problems and concerns highlighted by the pupils are divided into : pupil-to-system concerns and pupil-to teacher and pupil-to-pupil concerns. Other parts of the study deal with what primary school pupils think they will find in the secondary school, and with what is being done and what can be done to make the transition as easy as possible for the pupils.
