Multiculturalism
Issue Date: 2015
Abstract: A basic look at the Maltese ICT and I-Gaming Industries reveals that at times the processes for effective multicultural integration are taken for granted. This is then juxtaposed with emerging evidence that shows that some foreigners are advancing rapidly along the hierarchy within many organisations which indirectly show that indeed there are a number of structures and processes which support multicultural integration. What I do in this project is actually look at what is happening in the ICT and iGaming industries; investigating the fairness and justice of organisational practices, looking at languages, values and ways of life of the different interviewees within a number of workplaces. The findings indicate that in many senses multicultural integration can be truly achieved so that these outsiders are offered opportunities to pursue different pathways up the career ladder. In all this, it is clear that employers and employees need to be proactive on the issue so as to offer opportunities for successful integration and make multiculturalism happen; thus attract and integrate skilled employees in the Maltese workforce. It is thus confirmed that these foreigners can indeed add talent to this little island and multicultural integration can truly be a reality.
