Abstract: Pre-school years are important ones in a child's life. They are the stepping stone to all future learning be it socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. It is with this view in mind, that the author feels that today all those who care for young children, should think carefully about the quality of education provided to them. This entails that Kindergarten teachers should not only be professionally trained but that they should also have a planned programme of experiences to further enhance their teaching and learning styles. This study also shows that children learn best when actively engaged in the learning process. In Chapter one curriculum outcomes are set forth, together with the teacher's role to implement it. Chapter two examines the physical environment as an important element in the education of the very young. Chapter three suggests that one way of implementing the curriculum with very young children is through the thematic approach. This is further developed in part two of this study, were a number of themes are selected and developed based on the theoretical perspectives visioned in Part one of this study.
