Abstract: This study focuses on women and education in the Maltese context. Attempts are made to give a picture of the different life patterns in three different settings: urban, suburban and rural. Consequently, stress is made on the influence of family, occupation, social class, gender issues and attitudes/opinions. The way research was conducted, together with the 300 interviews and references to other similar works, are discussed. The different environmental backgrounds of the chosen communities are examined and described. The sample population is also studied. Family relations are dealt with, while occupation before and after marriage is reviewed. Indicators of social class are discussed. Other issues include gender and women's opinions on certain subjects. The ultimate goal of this dissertation is to see whether educated women and those living in certain areas lead a different life than others.
