Adapting the Maltese religious education program for inclusive settings : a resource pack for year 3

Abstract

In this dissertation, we intended to focus on children with Learning Disabilities and the teaching of religious education. In the first part of this dissertation, a literature review will look at the different types of Learning Disabilities. We will be looking at different definitions of Learning Disabilities both British (Spld) and American definition (LD). We are also going to look at the common factors of these definitions and early signs and symptoms of Learning Disabilities. The second part will be focusing on the teaching of Religious education in schools. We will be focusing on the importance of religion in the child's life. Various forms of creative teaching and also the Pedagogical Approach will be discussed. We will look at the different principle a teacher needs before planning a lesson. The third part is a Religious resource pack for children with Learning Disabilities to be included more in an inclusive setting in the Year 3 primary classroom. We kept in line with the original work that the children have in a Year 3 mainstream class and came up with a resource pack of activities with lesson plans that meet the needs of all children. We also produced a video, which consists of stories from the Bible translated to Maltese. We are also providing all the resources that the teacher needs to use this handbook, i.e. handouts, power points presentations and pictures.
