dc.description.abstractI think that the present situation in the Maltese Educational System, doesn't enhance the proper teaching of oral skills. My primary aim in this dissertation is to state the importance of proper teaching of listening and speaking in the classroom and to identify the major difficulties that the teachers in Malta meet during the implementation of these skills in both State and Private schools. This work is based primarily on the analysis of questionnaires distributed to both parents and teachers and on personal observations in Maltese classes. A particular attention during the analysis of both questionnaires and observations will be given to the main teachers' and parents' attitudes together with the major pedagogical implications which have a direct influence on the methodology adopted by language teachers during the teaching of oral skills. The evaluation of teacher strategies is given a primary importance. Another important issue concerns the major difficulties that teachers, parents and pupils meet during their interaction in schools and at home. The most interesting statistics are those obtained from the questionnaires and observations, which concern the classroom evaluation of the main interactions between pupils and teachers and the influence of the teacher- determined environment in the classroom.en_GB
