Abstract: This study aims to establish: i. whether teacher training has had positive, negative or a neutral effect on the teachers performance; ii. which areas of teacher training have had the more positive effects; iii. which are the teacher's expectations from teacher training and whether these expectations have been fulfilled by the training they have undergone. The research has two sections:- a review of the literature, the subject being mainly derived from foreign sources and the analysis of a questionnaire which has been sent to a random sample of teachers teaching at Primary and Secondary level in Government and Private Schools in the Maltese Islands.
