This dissertation is based on a horizontal survey performed on a sample of pupils attending Birkirkara Primary Schools and a younger sibling of these pupils. As an introduction, a birds eye view of Birkirkara is given. Through questionnaires to parent and children which were constructed after reading literature on children's social and general development, I studied the home environment. Then, from the children's response to school, initially at Kindergardten, I realized more implicitly, the importance of the teacher's role to provide interesting experiences for the child to be educated. Finally, children's responses revealed how, as they grow older, peers became more influential. Along these lines, I questioned if the families classified as manual, satisfied the child's needs, more than the non-manual and why. Also, I sought to discover, what lie's behind the pupil's desire for a particular career. Finally, I gave a brief account of the Birkirkara Primary School and wrote a criticism on how, this school can be a better agent of education.en_GB
