Abstract

This dissertation basically deals with an analytical study of the Maltese reader Id-Denfil 4 which is used as a textbook for reading in the Primary Schools of Malta and Gozo. This study includes a classification of the topics found in this book as well as a detailed study of the vocabulary used. This has been classified under various morphological headings, i.e., nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. I have also shown how many times each word has been used, together with my comments on the usage of certain words. The second part of this dissertation includes a workbook to be used side by side with Id-Denfil 4. This workbook includes some stories which serve as supplementary reading to certain stories found in Denfil 4 comprehension tests, language exercises and compositions. It also contains suggestions and teachers' notes to serve as guidelines of how the workbook is to be used.
