Abstract: | In this long essay, our work consists in analysing the teaching of Maltese short stories at Secondary Level. We took Form I mal~ classes in the Government, Church and Private sector. In our research, we used questionnaires, observations and interviews with teachers to see the present situation of the teaching of the short story. Our long essay incorporates not only a definition of the short story together with the history of its development in Maltese literature but also involves its pedagogical settings, basing our work on quantitative and qualitative research. Our long essay is structured on theory and practice. It makes emphasis on the decline of the Old Paradigm and the outcomes of the New Paradigm in the teaching of Maltese as a native language. Our long essay is not only restricted to the Maltese sphere regarding the short story but it has also information that concerns foreign theses that deal with the teaching of the short story. We are also presenting some proposals regarding the pedagogy of this genre which may be used in the future. |
