Abstract: This dissertation is an attempt to explore the educational programme that is being followed at the Eden Foundation. Children with autism present a particular challenge to educators. This challenge has recently been taken up by the EDEN Foundation, which set up a Specialised Training & Education Programme (STEP) for children with autism. It describes the staff's perceptions of the difficulties and needs, progress achieved. children's characteristics, educational strategies used and progress achieved. Using a case study method, held with each a semi-structured member of the multidisciplinary team (seven tutors, two speech therapists, two occupational therapists and one psychologist). All interviews were recorded on tape. STEP staff's perceptions were similar to those reported in the literature. Most emphasis was put on each child's uniqueness, as well as on common impairment in communication, social interaction and social integration; on the goals of achieving fuller integration of the child at school and in society; and on the progress which occurs in different areas for different children.
