Language, education and socialization in Mgarr

Abstract

This is a study of the correlation between the use of language and such socio-linguistically relevant variables as social context, age and education. The first Chapter sets out to give information about the geographical, historical" social and educational background of the chosen speech community. Some information about the Dialect itself is also given. Chapter II is a description of the distribution of the Mgarr speech community according to the speech codes used. Language attitudes are dealt with in Chapter III and Chapter IV gives a theoretical overview of the linguistic situation described in the previous Chapters. The work is concluded with a summary.
