Abstract: | The aim of this dissertation was to produce a CD-ROM about Vibrations and Waves in Physics that covers the SEC syllabus. For the first part of the dissertation, a literature research about the use of computers in education was carried out. This section mainly discusses the uses of computers in teaching and learning and the types of multimedia applications available. The second part describes the planning done before the actual programming. Amongst other things, this chapter deals with the aims, objectives and pedagogic approach of the program. The third part is the CD-ROM named 'Vibrations and Waves for SEC Physics' which was produced and attached to this dissertation. The CD-ROM contains four tutorial sections which are: 1) Vibrating Systems 2) Wave Characteristics 3) Transverse Waves 4) Longitudinal Waves. As a check for the students' understanding, questions about the topic were also prepared as a part of the program. The last part of the dissertation is the teacher's guide. It contains recommendations about different ways in which the program could be used during the teaching of the topic. It also contains all the information (text, diagrams, questions etc .. ) found in the program. |
