dc.description.abstract | This study provides a general overview on the various methods of sport training most commonly in use. Some of the work is dedicated to methods of physiological training, their relation to local sport and their suitability and adaptation for use by children during P.E. lessons. It also deals with skill acquisition and includes the analysis of a practical study carried out on a sample of local school boys. Recommendations on psychological preparation of both athletes and youngsters are provided. Various methods are considered in an attempt to add exposure, and give more importance to this valuable sector of sport training so direly lacking in the local sporting scene. A breakdown of the results obtained from a survey carried out amongst a number of local coaches and trainers is then provided. Besides a comparison of the training methods used during the different sporting seasons, a critical evaluation has also been given. Recommendations and practical suggestions have been offered where necessary, according to the guidelines discussed. It is the intention that this dissertation serves as a handbook to coaches, P.E. Teachers and amateur sportsmen alike, by offering practical hints on what, basically, training is all about. | en_GB |
