Abstract: This study provides detailed information on the extent of reading difficulties experienced by six children who attend Marsa Primary School. Before presenting the case-studies a general review of the factors involved in reading ability is given. These include, amongst others, General Maturity; the Level of General Intelligence; Environmental Factors and the problems encountered in Reading in a Foreign Language. Studies of the six children -- three boys and three girls follow. Besides the following standardized tests: English Reading Comprehension Test; The Standard Test of Reading Skill and the English Word-Reading Test, a number of Diagnostic Tests were set to each child, to determine the areas of difficulties. In addition, Spelling and Intelligence Tests were also administered. To gain wider know ledge of the subjects undergoing the study each child was interviewed. At the end of each case-study recommendations for remedial work are suggested. A General Conclusion, taking into account sociological factors, follows. An attempt to group the main areas of difficulties is made.
