Abstract: This study consists mainly 0f two parts, one of which consisted in the gathering of items for the questionnaire, and the second of constructing and testing the pilot questionnaire. The collection of items took place during school visits to area secondary schools, one for boys, and one for girls, where the students were asked to write down on sheets of paper their ideas about Physics. When these were collected from two area secondary schools, one for boys, and one for girls the second phase of the study started, that of constructing the pilot questionnaire. In the construction of the questionnaire, a number of statements were selected from the sheets of paper collected. In all 110 such statements were selected for the pilot questionnaire. Together with the selected items an attitude scale to be included in the questionnaire was chosen. The one selected was the Likert Scales, which consists of a five point scale, ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. After it was set and printed, it was administered by the author in two area secondary schools, one for boys, and one for girls with form a, 4, and 5 classes. · When a sufficient number of students were surveyed, the questionnaires were scored, and global results and results for different topics were worked out. Data of academic achievement were also collected from the schools. Sex differences in attitude were investigated, as well as achievement-attitude correlation, tests for discrimination and other statistical analysis of the attitude scores.
