An analysis of some Maltese NGO provision in adult education

Abstract

This study aims to carry out an analysis of some Maltese Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) which are presently involved in adult education provision. Nine NGOs were contacted and this thesis is mainly based on interviews carried out with these NGOs. The thesis is divided into seven chapters. Apart from reviewing issues concerning adult education, the first chapter also deals with NGOs which will be studied in greater detail later on in this thesis. In the next five chapters, five types of adult education provision, namely Liberal Education, Social Purpose Education, Workers' Education, Religious Education and Women's Studies, were identified and each NGO will be analysed according to the type of adult education it offers. The concluding chapter identifies some issues which seem to be affecting these analysed NGOs, and attempts to offer alternatives and solutions.
