Citation: Caruana, M. R. (1988). The quest for identity in five of Ebejer's English novels (Bachelor's dissertation).
Abstract: In my work I attempted to study the novels of a Maltese writer, Francis Ebejer. I have focused my attention on a particular theme, since it features practically in all his works; namely the theme of identity. While evaluating the process of writing, I traced the evolvement of this theme and how it branched into other areas. The two major areas are the individual and his search for self; together with the country's attempt in obtaining self-rule, independence and thus an identity of its own. In order to bring out the writer's qualities, I have, at certain stages, juxtaposed his works with those of others. I did not restrict my choice to Maltese writers. I found writers as Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Chinua Achebe, William Golding (to mention just a few) most revealing.
