Abstract: | The main aim of the dissertation is to follow up important issues of Maltese Educational Legislation which were necessary for the evolvement of Malta. The period covered when discussing legislation was from 1924 up to 1988. These years mark the first education act issued by Maltese legislators and the most recent education act respectively. The first chapter discusses the theoretical aspects of the making of educational legislation and strategies of implementation. The second chapter outlines the socio-political context of the period when the legislation was issued. The following six chapters look into the actual documents of educational legislation. Topics such as compulsory attendance and compulsory, primary and secondary education, the worker student scheme and the church state issue concerning education are dealt with. The two chapters dealing with the 1971 and 1988 Education Acts aim at throwing; light on how political ideology maintained by a particular Government reflect in the policies enacted through educational legislation. The dissertation deals with the change at every level of education and the consequential change within society. |
