Educating for values in the secondary school with particular reference to religious education

Abstract

The objective of this study has been a search for an adequate approach for values education in Maltue Secondary Schools. I attempted first to give a functional definition of "value" and to indicate sources of value education in general. Then I examined the results of a questionnaire distributed among a sample of our students. On these bases, I discussed: Whether values education can be given through formal and informal education, through a particular subject or through the whole educational set up of the school, I made a special reference to Religious Education because of my particular concern. Finally I tried to indicate some approaches and styles.
