An IT teaching and learning resource kit for use with learners of French

Abstract

ICT gives access to unlimited resources that can provide students with real contexts and motivating activities. Moreover, it serves as a good means by which educators can create their own teaching aids. This study presents a self-authoring computer programme which gives teachers of French the opportunity to create ICT-based activities on any topic and according to their students' needs. This resource kit is given to a certain number of teachers of French in Malta so that they try it out themselves by creating their own ICT activities and by making use of them during their lessons. This study evaluates the activities created by the teachers. In addition to this, it analyses and discusses data collected from two questionnaires in which the participants where asked about the use of ICT during their lessons and their opinions about the self-authoring package. The results demonstrate the validity of ICT as an effective tool to increase teacher autonomy and productivity.
