This dissertation, instead of analyzing and evaluating the Text-books and syllabus for religion through a content-breakdown method, arrives at its aim by exploiting the knowledge and experience of authorities in the subject. Such authorities are the "Kummissjoni Kateketika Nazzjonali", the Board of Examiners for the School Leaving Examination in Religion, foreign writers on the subject and Church documents. The work identifies various concerning issues that may be the reason behind some of the negative comments from the teachers in the questionnaire carried out and from the Boards of Examiners in the Examiners' Reports reviewed. Moreover it further tackled the question of what should be the aim for the teaching of the subject Ln Secondary Schools and this it does because a lack of direction is evident from what the local authorities reveal in their speeches or works. Apart from evaluating the text-books and syllabus the dissertation questions the effectiveness of the system used for the transmission of the subject and the formation that those who transmit it are given.en_GB
