An evaluation of English literature teaching at ordinary level, with special reference to the London G.C.E. papers

Abstract

This study purports to be an exercise in curriculum evaluation. A formative evaluation of the London 'O' Level Literature paper is attempted. The teaching in preparation for this examination as well as developments in the examination syllabus are extensively documented. Teachers' attitudes vis-a'-vis the examination paper have been also surveyed. Theoretical principles with regard to the literary curriculum have been formulated too. Finally, recommendations have been made for the successful implementation of recent developments within the London paper.
