Abstract: This work is a study of the development of Education in Malta during the period 1971-1987. This was done by looking at the major educational reforms which were carried out during this period in the lights of the ideals and ideologies of those who were responsible for them, that is the Labour Movement. Finally, an analysis of the degree of correspondence between the ideologies and the reforms was done. It resulted that the reforms di d no t a 1 ways ref 1 e c t the So c i a 1 i s t Ide a 1 s which the Labour Movement, who was responsible for these reforms, proclaimed. Also, there were reforms which, al though they did reflect Socialist Ideals yet, when these were carried out the out comes were different from those expected - and hence the ideals were not reached.
