Abstract: The aim of this article is to highlight the relationship between Giovanni Papini (1881-1956), a self-taught megalomaniac Tuscan intellectual, and the Futurist movement which aimed to integrate Italian with European culture. The review Leonardo was founded, with this in mind, by Papini and Giuseppe Prezzolini. Papini was throughout of a highly-charged character: indeed, he was first an agnostic, and later a devout Christian. His father was an atheist while his mother was a staunch Catholic. This may partly explain his continual adaptations to new and challenging experiences. Futurism was another opportunity that Papini, whose motto seemed always to be "carpe diem", delved into. Disillusioned by all previous experiences, he eventually found his fulfillment in the Roman Catholic faith.
