Abstract: This study investigates the success or otherwise of the policy of integrating special children into mainstream classes in the light of social and environmental factors. The roles of teachers and parents in re-inforcing or weakening the behaviours integration seeks to bring about are also highlighted. It aims at pinpointing the strengths and weaknesses of the Education Department's policies vis-a-vis the special child's needs and examines the impact of these policies on the child itself and its peers.
