dc.description.abstract | The aim of my study is to demonstrate that the formation of all dimensions of the human person is at the heart of education. Religious education has the important role to educate the transcendental dimension of the person and also the cultural and socio religious dimension. After discussing what education and schooling are all about, I intend to explore what is needed and what is of importance forthe full development ofthe human person. Next I will move on and try to show that Spiritual education should compliment Religious education. By analysing the present situation of Religious education in our schools, from the present syllabus and also the National Minimum Curriculum, I will argue that the present Religious education does not cover all the aspects of the spiritual formation. A lot of emphasis is made on the information we give about the subject, rather than about the forming of the human person. I will emphasize the need for spiritual formation, which will finally help to develop the student's character, and also the strengthening of values; these will reflect in the community and the society. In the last part of this dissertation, I argue in favour of setting up basic Christian communities in the school. I will put forward some of the existing programs about how one can build a Christian community. I will show how these communities will give the students a place where they can belong, a place where the community is made of school friends and where they can share and celebrate their common spiritual thirst. | en_GB |
