Abstract: The purpose of this study is an attempt to: a. identify standards for the evaluation of oral production among Maltese teachers of French; b. provide a number of exemplars, as graded by teachers, corresponding to performance indicators. This dissertation includes a theoretical review of the CEFRL, including an analysis of the implications this should have on the Maltese educational system. A number of role plays were collected from Form 4 classes, (after obtaining the necessary permission considering that the filming was frontal, so as to facilitate the evaluation of facial expressions and nuances). The filmed performances were submitted to about ten teachers, along with level descriptors for oral production. The final analysis indicates what standards Maltese teachers consider to be 'good', as well as provides guidelines for newer, inexperienced teachers who need to carry out evaluations.
