Abstract: This dissertation aims at portraying practical ways in which drama can be used in the English Language Teaching (ELI) classroom. The first chapter outlines a historical perspective of the origins of drama throughout the ages, particularly from the Greeks to the Modern European age. Moreover, the writer points out the misconception of the term drama when used in language classrooms. The writer goes on to explore in the second chapter the ways in which Drama in Education (DIO varies from Theatre in Education (TIE). Consequently, a number of drama activities which can be used in the ELT classroom are mentioned, defined and described. The third chapter covers a description of the research which has been carried out in a number of Form I English language classrooms. The aim of this study was that of finding out how many teachers use drama in the English language classroom, as well as the activities which they tend to administer during such a methodology. The results of this research are also pointed out and discussed. The final chapter illustrates the general conclusions of this research, as well as some suggestions which might be of use as regards to this particular issue.
