Abstract: The purpose of this study is to review the place economics education has taken in the curriculum and to investigate the significance of the development in the educational theory and practice for the teaching of economics in Malta. Recently there has been a remarkable expansion in economics education within the sixth form. This expansion, however did not occur at the same rate neither in Secondary level nor at University level. This study is concerned with students of all ages which hopefully will shed light on the need that an Economic understanding is necessary for everybody. As part of my study, I have experimented with a group of students between the ages of 8 and 12. I am sure the success of such an encounter was shared by all concerned. This was done as an integration within the Social Studies Curriculum. Finally I have also proposed a syllabus for Form 3, 4 and 5 in the Secondary School which could involve students much more in the subject. I hope that through this study the lack of enthusiasm will cease and new efforts and energy be applied to the teaching of such a remarkable study as Economics!
