dc.description.abstractTHE lecturer began by stressing the point that he did not intend to lay down a rigid catalogue of does and don'ts; he would merely express his personal views on the matter. His aim was twofold: to inculcate good counsel in the minds of law students and to impress upon them the high standards of the profession which it was their duty as potential lawyers to maintain. There existed, however, an inveterate popular prejudice against the legal profession - a prejudice as impossible of explanation as the instinctive dislike of Dr. Fell in the old rhyme. Three charges seemed to be at the root of this profound prejudice.en_GB
